First and foremost, preparation for the Sacraments begins with the regular practice of the faith by the family. The very necessary minimum for prayer and moral effort for all the faithful is defined as:
(Catechism of the Catholic Church, 2041-2043)
Children requiring sacramental preparation (those in Grades 2 and 3, as well as older children missing sacraments) should have completed at least one full year in religious education prior to entering sacramental preparation. During the sacramental preparation year, children are required to also be enrolled in the religious education program appropriate for their age group.
Second graders will spend time in their regular Religious Education classes preparing for First Reconciliation. In addition, parents will attend a Parent Meeting and be provided with resources to assist in the preparation of their children at home. See Sacrament Preparation Schedule for meeting and celebration dates.
Third graders, along with fourth or fifth graders who have not yet received Confirmation or First Communion, are required to participate in Religious Education classes at their grade level. Additionally, parents will attend a Parent Meeting and be provided with resources to help prepare their children at home. Finally, parents and children will attend four family sessions and have two meetings with Father Rob in preparation. See Sacrament Preparation Schedule for meeting dates.
