Our program is a dynamic weekly program made and tailored just for High School youth. Sunday nights 7:00 - 8:30pm with exception of holidays & school breaks (3/month) This year (2023-24) we'll again have some nights dedicated to dinner with social activities including small group talks and others using video based instructions and small group discussions so we don't feel rushed & can truly engage with one another. The goal is for teens to get to know each other and build friendships as well as keep them learning about our vast faith and serving our SJN community. Our fall semester will be Alpha Youth (Catholic context) which is basically Christian apologetics.
Our program consists of:
catechesis (Sunday nights)
building relationships (social gatherings)
service opportunities (both events and serving at least once a year at the Mass time you attend)
worship (Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation).
This year I also ask that youth attend Adoration at least once this year—this can be an Encounter Night (first Thursdays), JAFFA at St Joseph’s Cathedral (first Fridays), or any other adoration time at any Catholic church.
Liturgy Participation
In High School, we ask all of our students to assist at least once a year as Altar servers, Lectors or Hospitality at Mass time your family attends. For those who are active altar servers, lectors or hospitality or extraordinary (eucharistic) ministers who serve throughout the year, you do not have to sign up.
When signing up, either choose to be a Lector or Hospitality.
When serving, please arrive 15 minutes early dressed in your Sunday best.
What does Hospitality do?
- Greet people as they come into the Church and hand out any worship aids
- Help with the collection and bring up the gifts
- Pass out bulletins
- Help organize the Church after Mass
What does a Lector do?
- Proclaim one of the readings
- Must prepare ahead of time!
The success of our Faith Formation programs relies on the volunteerism of our SJN Parishioners. Please consider sharing one of your most valuable assets with our children…your TIME! There are many ways to get involved within the High School Program, whether it is working directly with the students or helping in the background!
We are looking for people to help in a number of different ways, but especially Environment Setup, picking up pizza (already ordered & paid for), and chaperones for various events throughout the year. If you are interested or have questions, please contact Cheri'!
